What Dinosaurs Will You Meet At Dudley Crazy Golf?

Dudley crazy golf is home to a vast array of animatronic dinosaurs on its all-weather, 18-hole adventure golf course. When you visit the golf course, day or by night, you will have to not only navigate your way around our 18 different and challenging holes but also have to sneak past our Jurassic friends, tiptoe past dinosaur eggs and duck beneath discarded dinosaur bones.

In this blog, we wanted to shine a light on the various dinosaur species we have living in harmony around our site, as well as the ones that you should look out for and those who don’t mind the odd selfie!

So whether you’re visiting us as a family, group or friends or as part of a kid’s party, a school trip or as part of a corporate team building day keep your eyes peeled for the following dinosaurs around Dudley crazy golf!

1) Dudley Crazy Golf’s Resident T-Rex

Our resident 20ft T-rex guards the entrance of some of the Dudley crazy golf course holes. To begin your turn you will have to sneak past his vicious jaws! While our T-rex hasn’t reached full growth yet, T-rex can grow up to 12 feet high and 40 feet long, weighing up to 7000kg and could live to be about 30 years.

Here are some interesting facts about the Tyrannosaurus Rex:

• Had a bite force of 5000pounds per square inch – most adults have a bite force of 175pounds!
• Thought to have a ‘septic bite’ due to the amount of rotten meat and bacteria in their teeth which would kill any wounded prey via infection
• Was considered one of the smartest carnivorous dinosaurs with a brain twice the size of other giant dinosaurs
• 20 almost complete skeletons have been found of the T-rex

2) Swimming Spinosaurus At Dudley Crazy Golf

Known as one of the deadliest dinosaurs to ever have existed, the spinosaurus at Dudley crazy golf lives in near harmony with our T-rex, but this wouldn’t have been the case when they shared the earth during the Jurassic period. The spinosaurus’s most notable feature was its large sail-like fin on its back, which could grow up to seven feet high and was part of its spine.

• The spinosaurus was an apt predator both in and outside the water – the only dinosaur that could do so!
• Spinosaurus’s were, on average, 19 feet longer than a T-rex
• While having four legs, they mostly walked on their hind legs

3) Spot All Of The Escaped Velociraptors

As you’re enjoying your time on the Dudley crazy golf course, be sure to look out for our family of escaped velociraptors! Our Dudley crazy golf raptors are covered in scales, however, palaeontologists have recently thought that velociraptors had feathers like today’s birds!

• Contrary to how the Jurassic Park movies portrayed the now-popular dinosaurs, many scientists believe that velociraptors were the size of a large turkey!
• Their main weapon was their curved 3-inch hind claws to slash, jab and disembowel their victims
• Their name means speedy thief in Latin

4) Say Hello To The Triceratops Family

Moving around the course you will see both carnivores and herbivores living in harmony, including our family of triceratops. Triceratops were large-headed herbivores who lived predominantly in what is now North America. While now they live with our resident T-Rex, T-Rex would predominantly hunt the triceratops, which is why you have to keep an eye on the T-Rex when you visit, to make sure he isn’t trying to get closer to the triceratops!

• Triceratops are known for their large skull which took up two-thirds of its body. The skull was easily recognisable thanks to its backwards-pointing frill and three horns
• Triceratops’ used their two larger horns to fight off T-Rex
• Its backwards-facing frill was thought to have been used to signal to other members of the herd, either share food, find mates or warn of danger approaching

5) Spot The Stegosaurus

Across the bridge from our T-Rex, lives our Stegosaurus dinosaur, surrounded by a vast array of attractive and exotic plants that it may have enjoyed during its period on earth. Stegosaurus was one of the many plated dinosaurs of the late Jurassic period, they typically grew to six and a half metres in length and nine metres tall, with a small skull and brain for its size, some palaeontologists believe them to have had brains the size of a walnut or ping pong ball!

• Did you know that there are more years between the stegosaurus and the T-Rex being alive than the T-Rex and humans?
• Their large and thick legs meant they often couldn’t move faster than five miles per hour
• They lived and moved in herds and protected themselves from predators with their large tails and thick plates on their backs
